Welcome to our site

Share International, Inc., a non-profit organization, was formed on June 26, 2006 in Rochester, Minnesota. Our mission is to serve children and youth who may not

have equal access to technology. We are focused on low-income families and minorities, but we welcome any children in Olmsted County and surrounding areas that are in need.

Drawing strength from our global diversity, resources and experiences, we promote innovative solutions that work toward a satisfying educational experience for all children. We facilitate lasting change by providing hands-on, one-on-one tutoring. Our commitment to working daily with students and children is very strong. We have many willing volunteers that will spend extra time with our children and youth.

We are helping parents and teachers prepare today's children to become tomorrow's leaders. We are advocates for global responsibility.

Here are specific objectives we know we can achieve:

  • increase parental involvement in the education process
  • promote and provide higher quality early care and education programs
  • reduce the incidence of child abuse/neglect
  • increase adult and family literacy

Our daily, hands-on tutoring will result in:

  • fewer school drop-outs and less truancy
  • fewer students being retained in grade
  • fewer school suspensions and expulsions
  • better school attendance
  • regular grade promotion becoming the norm
  • students graduating on schedule with their peers

Organization philosophy: We believe children's physical, emotional and mental health is the key to their social competence and self-confidence. This self-confidence leads to their success in higher education and success in later life. Our community will benefit greatly from these initiatives. Early intervention and adult engagement with youth is the key.

For this reason, Share International has created a program that develops children and youth socially, emotionally, physically and mentally. This program teaches academics, games, art, sports and many aspects of "normal" youth development. It also educates parents about the importance of early childhood education, involvement in the school planning process, PTA meetings and other parental participation possibilities. Finally, and most importantly:

Children, preteens, teen-agers and youth have regular interactions with caring adults that model positive community and family behavior. These interactions last a lifetime.

Establishment

Concerned parents founded SHARE International, and they incorporated it in June 26th, 2006. The founders of the organization were motivated to overcome the downward socio-economic spiral of the young newcomer immigrants to Rochester, Minnesota in the United States of America. Families and children of the newcomer’s community have limited English proficiency, often resulting to poor academic achievements leading to a high number of school dropouts. Parents recognized a failure to thrive in school impact children’s self esteem and the ability to be productive community members. SHAREI was founded to enhance self-esteem, foster understanding of other cultures, promote higher academic achievement, and increase the sense of personal responsibility. Through innovative, cultural responsive and creative programs, SHAREI strives to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate and illiteracy caused by the lack of healthcare and educational opportunities, by connecting children/youth and families to a generous, kind, caring circle of local, Diaspora and international donors.
